Advanced Cleft and Craniofacial Management Education Program

What happens when a global pandemic stops your international education program?
You take the program online.
The Advanced Cleft and Craniofacial Management Education Program is a lecture series delivered by Professor David David and Dr Ben Graves and other specialists to over 200 multidisciplinary students on-line through an e-learning platform tailor made by Craniofacial Australia for the series.

Project Overview

For many years, Craniofacial Australia has been funding surgeons to travel to Indonesia to train and educate local surgeons to manage craniofacial conditions. Patients with complex craniofacial conditions are transferred back to Adelaide for major surgery at the Australian Craniofacial Unit. This mutually beneficial relationship has worked well and has helped many patients.

In 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 global pandemic has prevented travel between Indonesia and Australia. As a result, training and education to local Indonesian surgeons has not occurred.  To continue to deliver world class education programs during these challenging times, we took it online. Craniofacial Australia created a 10 part lectures series covering topics such as:

• Advances in management of the craniosynostosis
• Facial asymmetry
• Facial clefts
• Abnormal craniofacial masses
• Mouth and jaw problems
• Craniomaxillo-facial trauma.

Project  Outcomes

  • Indonesian students from a wide range of multi-disciplinary fields presented case studies and received one on one training from world leading craniofacial surgeon Professor David and Craniofacial surgery expert Dr Ben Graves. This lecture series provided students with an in-depth understanding into best practices and protocol management of patients with complex craniofacial deformities.
