Case Studies

These patients' stories graphically demonstrate the work of the Australian Craniofacial Unit.

Often patients present themselves with a variety of conditions that require the specialized healthcare provided by the Australian Craniofacial Unit. The case of Anne Marie is one of these. Anne Marie was diagnosed with Goldenhar syndrome and also a Cleft Lip and Palate.

In the case of Cecilia, this beautiful baby came to us with a Cleft Lip and Palate. In Australia we are fortunate to have healthcare systems that address clefts in the early months of a child's life. This is not always the case in other parts of the world. Studies have indicated Clefts occur in about 1.2 per 1000 people.

Chin Ying was diagnosed with Apert syndrome. Apert is a rare developmental deformity.

Emma illustrates feelings of families involved and how the Australian Craniofacial Unit has played an important role in their lives.

The Australian Craniofacial Unit has always believed in the humanitarian support they can deliver to those in developing countries.

Reiywathi is a patient from Malaysia diagnosed with a rare Tessier Cleft.

The patients (or their parents on their behalf) have given permission for their names and images to be used.
